Abstract
995,327. Moulds. AMERICAN BRAKE SHOE CO. March 26, 1963 [March 27, 1962], No. 11877/63. Heading B3F. Metal is poured through a pouring basin 20 having a restricted outlet at a rate sufficient to maintain the basin substantially full, the pouring being stopped when the mould cavity and the basin are full and the restricting means simultaneously removed. The restricting means 24 may be of a refractory material which is held in place by the pouring jet but floats to the top of the melt when pouring is stopped, thus exposing the large aperture 22, and where it acts as a heat barrier. Alternatively, the member 24 may be such as to dissolve or melt at the appropriate time, being made of the same metal as that being cast, alloying material or material which will act as an innoculant or other additive.
