Abstract

1,132,056. Casting processes. METALLGESELLSCHAFT A.G. 14 Oct., 1966 [17 Nov., 1965], No. 46050/66. Addition to 1,132,055. Heading B3F. [Also in Division C7] Cast iron is brought into contact with inoculant in lump form as the former flows through the runner or gate system of a mould or chill, the inoculant being located immediately in front of a device such as a strainer core which prevents it being entrained otherwise than in dissolved form. The inoculant may be any alloy conventionally used for that purpose, such as those of silicon with an alkaline earth metal and/or magnesium, iron, zirconium, nickel, copper, tin or manganese. In a modification the inoculant may be located in a pouring basin where it is retained by a weir.
