Abstract

968,943. Casting processes. HENRY WIGGIN & CO. Ltd. July 29, 1963 [Aug. 8, 1962], No. 30404/62. Drawings to Specification. Heading B3F. High melting point metals such as steels, and alloys containing Ni, Cr, Al, or Ti, are cast into ingot moulds and the mould or a vessel from which the melt runs into the mould or both is or are charged with a mass of vermiculite and the melt is poured into and through this mass. In the Durville process, a layer of vermiculite is put in the receiver of the combined receiver and mould before the molten metal is poured into the receiver from a ladle which may also have vermiculite placed in it before it is filled with the melt. Preferably the process is so carried out that the vermiculite rests on top of the metal during solidification.
