Abstract

1276018 Casting processes FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd 23 Sept 1970 [10 Oct 1969] 49930/69 Heading B3F [Also in Division C7] Ingots are bottom poured and on the surface of the molten metal rising in the mould, a flux composition including basalt is provided as a heat-insulating cover. Additionally, the composition may comprise 40-60% wt. blast furnace slag or 5-30% wt. Na 2 CO 3 or 5-10% wt. CaF 2 with or without up to 20% wt. of vermiculite or perlite. The compositions specified are (in % wt.): Composition (I) was used for pouring 5 ton 'ingots of 18/8 stainless steel, 50/50 Fe/Ni and coinage metal (Fe/Ni/Cu) at a pouring rate of 44 cm./min., and in an amount of 2 kg./tonne. For pouring 0À8 ton ingots of 18/8 stainless steel and Ti-stabilized stainless steel at a rate of 22 cm./min. composition (I) is used in an amount of 2À5 kg./tonne. Composition (2) was employed in casting stainless steels.
