1,172,688. Pouring molten metals. ARBED, ACIERIES REUNIES DE BURBACH-EICHDUDELANGE, S.A. 28 Nov., 1966 [7 Dec., 1965], No. 53254/66. Heading F4B. Metal, particularly steel, is protected from oxidation by air during pouring from a refining furnace 1 to a ladle 4 below the furnace by a tube 3 reaching from the tap hole 2 nearly to the bottom of the ladle, so that during pouring the tube empties below the layer of slag 8 in the ladle for most of the operation. A similar tube 6 may be used for the introduction of alloying and deoxidation agents. The tube 3 may be made of a refractory material or metal; in the latter case if the melting point is below the temperature of the molten metal 7 in the ladle provision must be made to keep the lower end of the tube below the metal surface in the ladle.
