Abstract
1,261,428. Continuous casting. FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd. 23 Sept., 1970 [10 Oct., 1969], No. 49929/69. Heading B3F. [Also in Division C7] Metal, such as steel, is teemed from a tundish into a continuous casting mould, e.g. of copper, through a nozzle whose base is submerged in the melt in the mould, the surface of the melt being covered with a flux including basalt. Also included in the flux (see Division C7) may be fluxing agents (such as sodium carbonate and calcium fluoride), blast furnace slag, perlite, vermiculite (particle size between 0À15 and 0À075 mm.) and carbon. The particle size of most of the flux may be 0À15 to 0À05 mm. and it may be applied at 0À5 to 1À5 kg./tonne. It may have lubricating, refining and insulating properties.
