Abstract
PURPOSE:To pass molten steel between shelves and separate away nonmetallic inclusion particles by providing multiple stages of shelves of refractory materials between the receiving steel bath region which receives the molten steel of a tundish and the tapping bath region which pours molten steel into a mold. CONSTITUTION:Multiple stages of shelves 5 of refractory materials are provided at the intermediate of the receiving steel bath region 3 which receives molten steel from the ladle of a tundish and the tapping bath region 4 which pours molten steel into a mold, parallel to the tundish bottom. Next, when the molten steel in the ladle is poured into the receiving steel bath region 3 by way of a nozzle 6, it flows in the tapping bath region 4 by passing the spacings between the shelves 5 and is poured into the mold 9 past the nozzle 7. At this time, the spacings between the shelves 5 are small and this enables the considerable reduction in the floating distance of the particles of the nonmetallic inclusions in the molten steel. Since the shelves made of refractory materials adsorb inclusion particles like slag, they have the effect similar to that when the contact area of the molten steel and slag is increased.
