Abstract
1537121 Continuous casting DIDIERWERKEAG 8 Jan 1976 [8 Jan 1975] 00677/76 Heading B3F [Also in Division F4] A pouring tube 1 has one or more outlets 9 and two or more sleeves 3, 4 each with apertures 8 for co-operation with the outlet(s) 9; one of the sleeves, 3, can be located with its aperture or apertures in register with the outlet or outlets 9, with at least one other of the sleeves supported above the sleeve 3. The tube 1 extends from an orifice brick 2 of a vessel into a mould to submerge the apertures 8 and outlets below the surface 10 of the metal pool which is covered by flux powder. When the sleeve 3 is worn with use, it is broken away-being pre-notohed for the purpose-and securing pins 6, 7 are removed to allow the unsupported sleeve 4 to slide down and be supported in the pool by its buoyancy. New pins 6, 7 are fitted just above the top of the sleeve 4 to stop it rising again and the tube 1 can continue to be used. To ensure registration of the apertures 8 and outlets 9, the outer periphery of the tube 1 and the bores of the sleeves are oval in crosssection. The bore of the sleeve 4 is larger than that of the sleeve 3.
