Abstract
PURPOSE: To effectively reduce nonmetallic inclusions by providing an upper ingate made higher in its upper part than the molten metal surface in the tundish and a lower ingate on the inner side of the upper ingate and specifying the areas of the respective ingates.
CONSTITUTION: For example, in a boat type tundish 7 for continuous casting, the teeming flow from a ladle long nozzle 6 provided in the lower part of a ladle 5 is regulated to upward flow 12 by a lower ingate 10, and is allowed to contact with the flux 11 stored on the inner side of the upper ingate 9, thence it is teemed from a tundish nozzle 8 into a mold. In this case, the inner side area of a lower ingate 10 is defined as S1, the inner side area of the upper ingate 9 as S2 and the entire surface area of the molten sttel in the tundish as S, and if these are kept at S2/S1≤2.0, S1/S≤1/5, the nonmetallic inclusions are captured by the flux 11 most effectively.
