Abstract
1379191 Continuous casting VEREINIGTE ÍSTERREICHISCHE EISEN-UND STAHLWERKE AG 1 Feb 1973 [3 Feb 1972] 5165/73 Heading B3F [Also in Division F4] A refractory spout 4, e.g. for connection to a tundish 3 and immersion in molten steel 9 below a slag layer 12 in a mould, has a closed bottom 14 and side outlets 20, 21 and a parttion 17 dividing the bore. The outlets are upwardly directed and may be transverse slits or cylindrical or conical openings. There may be more than two passages 15, 16 formed by partitions, and in a row side-by-side. There may be two outlets at different angles from each passage 15, 16 or a tangential outlet 27 or 28, Fig. 5b, from each. The flow from the outlets is said to flush non- metallic inclusions off from the solidification front to the slag layer 12. There may be openings through the spout wall above the partition 17 for the introduction of deoxidants or inert gas.
