Abstract
1394304 Flux for treating molten steel AIKOH CO Ltd 22 Jan 1973 [25 Jan 1972] 3184/73 Headings C7D and C7M A flux for addition to molten steel during tapping or teeming comprises in wt per cent 15-50 NaF, 3-40 LiF, 30-70 CaF 2 and has a melting point of 600-1100 C. Up to 3 % K 2 TiF 6 and/or 3% CeF3 can also be included and a fluoride of a rare earth or misch metal may replace the CeF 3 The flux is used for cleaning carbon steel, stainless steel, Cr-Mo steel by deoxidation, removal of non metallic inclusions, improving ingot surfaces, desulphurization and removal of hydrogen. In bottom pouring 150-1000 g flux per metric ton of steel is used, and in top pouring 300-1000 g per metric ton. The flux formed by mixing-40 mesh powders is added as powder, granules or briquettes. The flux can also be used in continuous casting.
