Abstract
1436561 Ingot moulds FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd 18 Jan 1974 [18 Jan 1973] 2751/73 Heading B3F [Also in Division C7] An exothermic composition, e.g. of Al and Fe 2 O 3 (see Division C5), is fired to produce a pool of ferrous metal, which is allowed to solidify, in an area of erosion of an ingot mould stool, in order to repair the stool. Details of alumina-thermic compositions including particle size and moisture content are given. A ferro-alloy containing Si, Mn or Cr may be included to improve the properties of the repaired stool. BaO 2 and Mg may be included (to initiate the reaction) or potassium cryolite or iron powder. Fluorspar and borax fluxes may be applied above or below the composition. If used below, a steel plate may be placed over flux applied to the stool and the composition placed above the plate. A portion of the flux may be mixed with the composition.
