Abstract
1341144 Cast iron H RENAUD 3 Feb 1972 [4 Feb 1971] 5084/72 Heading C7A Alloy cast iron comprises:- Total and the balance being Fe. The alloy is melted, without the Si component; the melt is heated to about 1600C and treated with an additive comprising two parts of at least one Mg halide and one part powdered Ca; the slag is removed; and the required amount of Si is added (e.g. as ferrosilicon). A suitable additive is one third each of Mg F 2 , MgCl 2 and powdered Ca.
