Abstract

1,126,013. Spheroidal graphite iron; alloys. VANADIUM CORP. OF AMERICA. May 10, 1967 [May 24, 19661, No.21812/67. Headings C7A and C7D. In a method of producing iron having a spheroidal graphite structure in the as-east condition there is added to the molten iron an alloy consisting of rare earth metal, silicon and iron in an amount sufficient to introduce 0À03% to 0À15% of cerium to the bath. Following this addition the iron may be inoculated with a silicon-base alloy such as 75% ferro-silicon, although this is not essential. The addition alloy may contain in percentage by weight cerium 10 - 25 silicon 35 - 50 other rare earth metals 5 - 20 calcium 0 - 1 aluminium 0 - 1 iron balance.
