1299748 Melting cast iron MEEHANITE METAL CORP 21 April 1970 [2 Sept 1969] 18953/70 Heading C7D Iron is melted in an electric furnace and superheated to 2750‹ to 3000‹F, at least 0À125% of silicon carbide being added to the charge either before or after melting; the addition prevents an increase of the chill value, and decreases the formation of undercooled graphite.
