Abstract

1,138,952. Producing spheroidal graphite iron; alloys. K. KUSAKA. Feb. 7 1966, No. 5190/66. Headings C7A and C7D. Molten iron is treated first with magnesium or a magnesium alloy, with or without a preliminary desulphurization, and there is then added to it a mixture consisting of one or more single or double fluorides of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals or rare-earth metals and one or more calcium-silicon alloys in powder form, whereby dross is removed. The alloys may additionally contain iron, manganese, zirconium, yttrium or a rare-earth element, while the amount of mixture used may be 0À4 to 1À5% of the weight of the iron. Four particular mixtures are described, using alloys of the following compositions: Ca 32À3% Ca 24À0% Fe 2À6% Rare earth metal 15À2% Si balance Fe 8À7% Si balance Ca 18À2% Ca 2À7% Mn 15À8% Fe 18À0% Si balance Si balance
