Abstract

1434932 Producing alloys SOLMET ALLOYS Ltd 15 June 1973 [19 June 1972] 28538/72 Heading C7D An alloy is produced by adding porous pre-sintered blocks of alloying element(s) and flux(es) in intimate mixture to a bath of molten metal. In an example, blocks formed of Mn and a mixed flux comprising CaF 2 , NaC1, KC1 and MgCl 2 are added to a bath of molten A1. The Mn may be added to or replaced by one or more of Ni, Cu, Si, Cr, Fe, Ti, Zr and B. Other fluxing materials include charcoal, silicates, borates and fluorides. The blocks are sintered from an intimate mixture of the ingredients.
