Abstract

420,494. Casting metals. GOLDSCHMIDT AKT.-GES., T., 18, Salkenbergsweg, Essen, Germany. June 26, 1934, No. 18851. Convention date, July 6, 1933. [Classes 83 (i) and 83 (iv)] Introducing metals; moulds.-Steel-forming additions, such as carbon, silicon or silicon carbide, are introduced into aluminogenetic iron in aluminothermal welding by mixing them with an inert refractory substance, such as alumina or slag from either a blast furnace or an aluminothermal reaction, and using the mixture to seal the reaction crucible. Other steel-forming materials such as manganese, nickel, chromium, titanium, vanadium, tungsten, employed singly or in the form of their alloys or ferro-alloys may be incorporated in the mixture or be strewn, in coarser condition, over the seal.
