Abstract

1,136,843. Casting metals. COMPAGNIE POUR L'ETUDE ET LA REALISATION DE COMBUSTIBLES ATOMIQUES. 15 March, 1966 [15 March, 1965], No. 11323/66. Heading B3F. In a process for producing a plurality of metal castings simultaneously in moulds 22 supplied with molten metal from a distributer 10 positioned above the moulds, the metal is supplied to the moulds 22 through respective orifices 24 and at least one auxiliary orifice 30 into an auxiliary mould 28, the auxiliary orifice 30 being at a lower level than the other mould orifices 24. When casting molten metal discharged from the crucible 11 passes into the distributer and through the respective orifices into the moulds. The orifice 30 of the auxiliary mould may be smaller than the orifices 24 of the other moulds or the capacity of the auxiliary mould may be greater than the other respective moulds so that the mould 28 fills more slowly and also any metal remaining in the distributer when the moulds 22 have been filled, passes due to the lower level of the auxiliary orifice 30 into the auxiliary mould. The metal cast in the auxiliary mould may be subsequently remelted. The process may be carried out in a vacuum.
