Abstract
829,957. Casting-plant; continuous-casting- machines; making ingots. MAERTENS, L. J. Aug. 17, 1956 [Sept. 6, 1955], No. 25173/56. Classes 83 (1) and 83 (2). A continuous-casting-process comprises pouring the melt from a ladle 1 into a furnace 2, from the furnace into a container 3, and from thence through a conduit 4 of truncated conical shape, the melt then by its first jet engaging and solidifying upon a keying-part of a conveying device 11, by which the metal is led through two horizontal ingot-moulds 5, 6, in succession, the second, 6, of which has provision for taking- up play due to shrinkage, as described hereafter, then between conveying and shaping rollers 7, 8, 10. The first mould 5 has a series of longitudinal hollow elements 5a of brass or other metal of high heat-conductivity, forming coolant passages. The other mould 6 has similar elements which are mounted on members 5d, which may be moved to vary the crosssectional area of the mould by wedges 5m, moved by bolts 5q. The ingot-temperature is maintained between the roll-passes by a furnace 9.
