Abstract

PURPOSE: To make easier the handling of wastes which are hard to handle by solidification at low cost by the procedure in which a fibrous reinforcement and/or a solidifying accelerator are added to fine powdery wastes, and then the wastes are subjected to an autoclave steam treatment with the presence of a Ca component.
CONSTITUTION: Sewage sludge or incinerated fine powdery wastes are dehydrated and dried as needed, and then mixed with a fibrous reinforcement, e.g., glass fiber, steel fiber, etc., together with a solidifying accelerator, e.g., clay, an Al compound, etc., as needed. Then, the mixture is molded with a Ca component (in a proportion of 10wt% in terms of quick lime in the molding) and then the molding is treated with steam in an autoclave, in which no addition of the Ca component is required in case where sufficient Ca component is already present in the molding. Thus, the wastes can be solidified into a stroung solid with a cheap solidifying agent, thus eliminating trouble with the elution of harmful substances in the reclaiming site, etc. and also permitting the recycling of the wastes as aggregate, etc. for reuse.
