Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve strength without heating and firing the core and prevent the occurrence of deformation by mixing sublimatable materials and polyethylene base surfactants as a binder to refractory aggregate, thereby preparing the raw material for core.
CONSTITUTION: Sublimatable materials such as napthalene or other 2W30w% and further polyethylene base surfactants 0.2W5w% to improve molding effect are melted at a temperature above 50°C and are mixed and used as a binder to the refractory aggregate mixed with one or two or more kinds of refractory aggregates such as of alumina and others being ceramic raw materials. The core is molded by using the raw material thus prepared and in the next stage the binder is let to decompose and dissipate, whereby the core having moderate voids is provided. Colloidal silica is impregnated in these voids under a vacuum and further it is frozen at a low temperature below 0°C and is then dried at ordinary temperature. Thereupon, the gelling of the colloidal silica accelerates and the strength necessary for the ceramic core is readily obtained.
