Abstract

Articles in refractory materials, esp. concrete, are moulded by casting directly into a plastics material mould, pref. expanded polystyrene, of which the surfaces have been treated to increase the hardness and stop sticking to the refractory material. The mould is pref. treated with an alcoholic which is thus steam heated to about 65 degrees C for about 1 hr. The mould is then treated with a silicone onto which, after drying, is sprayed a special oil release agent. The articles remain in the mould during transport and until required for use.
