Abstract

427,320. Walls, floors, and like structtures; casting in situ. SCHNEIDERS, A., 1, Viktoriastrasse, Steglitz, Berlin. Oct. 13, 1933, No. 28370. [Classes 20 (ii) and 20 (iv)] A method of making masonry structures, such as walls and floors, consists in building a shell structure of hollow moulds or hollow bricks, and introducing cement milk into the structure through one or more inlets provided at the base thereof so that the level of the liquid rises through the structure and enters the cavities between or within the moulds or bricks. The term " cement milk is defined as a liquid binding material comprising a mixture of cement with sufficient water for the mixture to be fluid and mobile to such extent that it may be poured, pumped or siphoned. The mixture may have an addition of rock powder. In building a solid wall, hollow bricks d, which are open at the top and bottom and have apertures h in the end faces, are built up to constitute a shell as shown in sectional plan in Fig. 2 ; the cavities are first filled with coarse aggregate material and cement milk is then introduced at the base of the shell through a conduit l. For building a cavity wall, a structure is formed of open work iron boxes o, Fig. 3, each of which contains a trough-shaped mould a of glazed clay, concrete, plaster of Paris, tarred or varnished wood, &c., and boards are attached on each side of the structure to form a shell. Aggregate material is packed around the moulds a, and cement milk is fed into the shell at the base. A further cavity wall is formed of hollow bricks a which are shaped and arranged as shown in Figs. 4 and 5 so that when cement milk is introduced at the base of the wall it fills the spaces between the bricks and forms vertical and horizontal ribs. The spaces between the end walls of the bricks may be first filled with aggregate, and a metal reinforcement may be provided so as to form reinforcedconcrete ribs. The cement milk rises to some extent in the hollow moulds, and the extent of the rise may be regulated by providing apertures in the end walls of the mould through which air may escape. To form a floor, trough-shaped moulds a are supported on centering n extending between joists k as shown in Fig. 7, and aggregate is packed between and over the moulds prior to the introduction of the cement milk at the base of the structure. The moulds a may be of frusto-pyramidal shape to permit their withdrawal after hardening of the concrete. The moulds may also be open at the top and filled with fine sand or like material, which permits the water of the cement milk to penetrate, but excludes the cement, and thereby forms the concrete skeleton ribs outside the moulds. Interlocking projections and recesses may be provided on the abutting surfaces of the bricks, and the joints may also be sealed by the insertion of sealing materials in the joints or linen, pasteboard or the like applied over the external faces of the joints.
