1 Claim.
This invention relates to molding forms and more particularly to a form adapted for use in the making of concrete tiles or the like.
' An object of this invention is to provide a form with cores supported within the form so that tiles of varying thicknesses can be made.
Another object of this invention is to provide a form which is so constructed as to permit the forming of tiles with relatively thin walls and a hollow center, one side of the moldedtile having an enlarged face portion so as to provide a wide surface for the spreading of mortar or the like, when the tile is laid in the wall upside down.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a mold or form having a bottom flange to prevent the settling of the form in sand.
A further object of this invention is to provide a mold or form with outstanding top portions which facilitate the pouring of the cement or plastic in the form, and at the same time provide means whereby the form can be readily lifted.
The above and various other objects and adtanges of this invention will in part be described and in part be understood from the following detailed description of the present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein:-

Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts .40 throughout the several views, the numerals and 11 designate the side walls of a form and the numerals 12 and 13 designate the end walls of the form which are mounted at right angularly related position so as to provide a rectangular form. 45 The side walls 10 and 11 are provided with openings or slots 14 to receive tongues l5 carried by the end members 12 and 13.
Bolts 16 extend between the side members 10 and 11 at a point outwardly of the end walls 12 and 13 and act to hold the form in rectangular shape. The side walls 10 and 11 are provided with a bottom ange 17, which is adapted to rest on sand or the like, during the formation of the tiles and this fiange 17 prevents the sinking of the form within the sand, so as to make tiles of uneven I'he top lof each side member 10 and 11 is prorvided with a horizontal flange 18, and a vertical flange 19 iscarried by the outer edge of the hori- 60 zontal angelS, thereby providing a ledge or rim which is adapted to prevent spilling of mortar or material from which the tiles are being made.
The end members 12 and 13 are also provided with horizontal flanges 20, which have their terminal ends resting on the horizontaliiange 18. The side flanges -18 and 19 not onlyprovide a rim to prevent spilling of the material-but also provide means whereby the form may lbe readily lifted.
rA` plurality of partitions or plates 21 are dis-Q posed within the form intermediate the ends and are mounted in parallel relation to the ends 12 and 13. These partitions or dividing walls are also provided with tongues 22 engaging in slots 23 provided in the side Walls 10 and 11 and these partitions are removable so that the form may be divided into any desired number of equal parts.
A pair of cores, generally designated as 24 and 25, are disposed within the form intermediate the space between pairs of partitions 21 or between an end 12 or 13 and an adjacent partition 21. These cores are held in spaced relation to each other by a connecting bar 26 and supporting bars 27 are carried by the end of each core member 24 and 25 and these supporting bars 27 engage in slots or recesses 28 provided in the side wall members 10 and 11 and in the horizontal flange 18.
The core members 24 and 25 are mounted in the side Walls l0 and 11 by vertical movement and the slots 28 are spaced apart the desired distance so that the cores 24 and 25 may be spaced an equal distance from the partitions 21 or from a partition 21 and an end wall 11 or 12. These core members 24 and 25 are similar in construction and are provided with a flat top wall 29 and straight side walls 30 and beveled lower end portions 31. By providing beveled lower end portions 31, a relatively wide wall is provided at one side of the tile so as to provide a Wider surface to receive mortar or the like, and this beveled lower end portion 31 also provides the means whereby the core may be readily withdrawn 105 from the material when thev material begins to set. Preferably these cores 24 and 25 are of hollow construction, so that they will be relatively light and the lower or beveled portion 31 is open at the bottom and rests on the sand so that none 11110 of thev material will flow into the interior of the core,
In the use and operation of this mold the partition 21 maybe mounted in the desired slots 23 so that the entire mold will be divided into a desired number of equal parts and when so divded the core members 24 and 25 may be supported in the desired slots 28. These core members will be supported at a point Within the center of the space between partitions 21 or between a partition 2,1 and one of the walls 12 or 13. The material may then be poured in from the top of the form until it is level with the top 29 and with the horizontal flange 18. The ends of the slots 28 in the lianges also provide means forA centering the cores in the form by holding the bars 27 againsty lateral movement and the upper edges of these bars 27 lie iiush with the top o f the flanges 18.
At the proper time in the setting of the mate-r rial, the cores 24 and 25 may be removed and the resultant tile will have a relatively large bottom face portion due at the beveled lower portions 31 of the side and end walls of the core membersi24 and 25.
Itwill be noted from the foregoing that a relatively simple form construction has been provided wherein any desired number of tiles maybe formed and wherein these tiles may be formed with walls which are relatively thin but of the f' desired strength to suit the needs for which the tiles have been designed.
Through the provision of the vertical side walls 30, when the vcores 24 and 25 are being withdrawn from the mold, these vertical side walls act as trowel members so as to smoothen the inner surface of the blocks, thereby eliminating the necessity of doing further work on the blocks and also permitting the removal of the cores from the material much sooner than is possible Where the entire cores are tapered.
It is, of course, understood that various changesof longitudinally spaced openings, lugs carried by said partitions for engagement in selected openings of the side members, core members, supporting lugs carried by said core members and disposed with one edge thereof flush with a face of the core members, horizontal outwardly extending iianges carried by said side members, and a vertical flange carried by reach horizontal ange, said horizontal anges having openings on the inner edge thereof and said side members having slots therein communicating with the openings of said ilanges to receive an endof said supporting lugs of said core members, -theupper edge of each supporting lugbeing disposed ush with the upper face of said horizontal flanges and the upper edge ofsaid side members to facilitate `smoothing of the material in the form when the vmaterial vis in aplastic state.
