Abstract
596,349. Building-blocks. BEANLAND, F. D. July 23, 1945, No. 18778. [Classes 20(iv) and 87(i)] In building a cavity wall, blocks 10 are used, which are provided with locating formations or grooves 11 for loose intercavity spacing members and means 14 for tying together opposite complementary blocks as shown in Fig. 3. In constructing a cavity wall, Fig. 8, the inner wall is built up from blocks 10 with the grooves 11 and the members 14 disposed towards the cavity. The outer wall comprises modified blocks 10a also having the grooves 11 and the members 14 disposed towards the cavity. The tie members 14 are interconnected by a plug or by twisting the wires of the members 14 together. Spacing members 12 are inserted in the grooves 11. The blocks 10a have the outer surface covered by bricks or tiles, end half spaces 16 being left for receiving insert tiles over the joints. The tiles may also be arranged for interlocked or dovetailed corner joint formation 17. The spaces at the corners may be filled with concrete 18 and metal reinforcements 19, thus providing intercavity columns or pillars. In a further modification of the block 10, the block is faced with roughcast, or brick dust. The edges of the blocks may be provided with interlocking formations 13 as described in Specification 590,923.
