613,145. Electron beam apparatus. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. March 19, 1946, No. 8417. Convention date, Aug. 14, 1941. [Class 39 (i)] An electrode system for producing a narrow electron beam comprises a cathode, a Wehnelt cylinder 4 and associated disc 6, an anode consisting of the two cylinders 2, 3 and the two discs 1, 20, and a final anode consisting of cylinder 7 and disc 8. Disc 20 is secured to the cylinder 3, and the discs may be secured in position in an assembly after the adjacent cylinder or cylinders have been secured in position in the assembly. Thus, the discs may be positioned with great accuracy; the positioning of the cylinders is less important because the discs bound the focusing fields. The electrodes may be supported from glass rods 18 in the manner described in Specification 483,435.
