Abstract
503,954. Cathode-ray tubes. RADIOAKT.-GES. D. S. LOEWE. July 15, 1937, No. 19630. Convention date, July 16, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] Cathode-ray tubes with intensity control of the ray have a cylindrical 'cathode 3 provided with a sleeve-like projection 5.extending beyond the circular end face in which the emissive spot 4 is inlaid. Heating of the spot 4 may be improved by heat-conducting wires inlaid therein. The projection 5 amounts to about one-half of the diameter of the cathode. The diameter of the control grid aperture is approximately equal to that of the cathode and the distance between the spot 4 and the control grid 1 is approximately the same. The anode 2 has an aperture of larger diameter than that in the grid 1. When a positive or negative bias is provided on the control grid, electrons are refracted towards the axis and all the electrons of the beam are thereby caused to pass through the dia: phragm apertures. A cross'-over in the neighbourhood of the cathode is focused on the luminous screen by a main lens system comprising the cylinder 8 and the anode 7, while the cylinders 9 and 8 constitute a condensing lens. The electrodes 9 and 2 may be connected together, the electrons then following the path 10. Alternatively electrode 9 and cathode may be connected, anode 2 being variable or connected to the cylinder 8, the rays 'then following the path 11. Suitable dimensions for the electrodes are specified.
