Abstract

606,794. Electric resonators. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. Jan. 29, 1943, No. 1588. Convention date, Jan. 29, 1942. [Class 40 (viii)] [Also in Group XL (a)] Tuning means for the cavity. resonator 9, Fig. 1, of a reflex velocity-modulated tube comprises a kinematically pivoted lever 43 interposed between the two relatively movable wall portions 10, 13 which are urged together by springs 42'. The lever 43, Fig. 3, comprises two arms 46, 47 at an angle and stiffened by the web 44, the shorter arm 47 having on its bottom surface a hole and slot bearing 50, 51 engaged by pins 48, 49 on flange 30, and on its top surface a conical bearing hole 45 engaged by strut 41 bearing on flange 29. Flanges 29, 30 are secured respectively to fixed wall 13 of the resonator and re-entrant wall portion 10, which is movable by virtue of flexible resonator wall 11. Moving the lever 43, by means of micrometer screw 54 bearing against its longer arm, acts on strut 41 to cause flanges 29, 30 to rock about fixed struts 39 and alters the relative spacing of grids 8, 14 and hence the resonator frequency. The struts 39, 41 may be of an alloy of low or zero expansion coefficient. Specifications 606,802, [Group XL (a)], and 608,803 are referred to.
