Abstract
639,008. Electric resonators. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO., Inc. July 4, 1947, No. 17688. Convention date, Aug. 1, 1946. [Class 40 (viii)] A cavity. resonator has means located along a nodal plane of a desired mode of oscillation which dissipates energy of an undesired mode. As shown, a resonator 10 is provided with a tuning piston 18 and two discs 33 and 34 are supported in the resonator along nodal planes. The discs may comprise a sheet of dielectric material and the loss they cause to an undesired mode may be increased by providing them with a conducting coating. Asthe position of the nodal planes will change slightly with movement of the tuning piston 18, the discs 33 and 34 may be made adjustable by passing their supporting pins 38 through slots in the resonator wall and securing them by a clamping ring outside. Further discs 35 and 36 may be provided on other nodal planes. In an alternative construction slots may be cut in the resonator wall along a nodal plane to permit energy of an unwanted mode to leak out of the resonator.
