Abstract

631,166. Velocity - modulation tubes. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. March 10, 1943, No. 6205/45. Convention date; March 24, 1942. Divided out of 631,164. [Class 39 (i)] High frequency apparatus comprises a hollow resonator 3 having relatively displaceable portions and tuning means including a member 25 connected to the displaceable portions and having means for passing an electric current therethrough to vary its temperature and thus its length. The movable part of the resonator is mounted on a rod 14. The apparatus shown is a reflex velocity modulation apparatus and the reflector electrode 15 is mounted on a rod 17 which is connected at the top by a plate 18 to rod 14. The member 25 is connected to plate 18 and moves it against the action of a spring 23 to bend the rods 14 and 17 and effect tuning movement in the resonator. Stiffening pins 31 and 32 may be provided on the rods to confine the bending to a desired length thereof. The remainder of the apparatus is the same as that described in Specification 631,164. Specification 535,767 also is referred to.
