587,640. Cycle brakes. BRANDON, J. H., and OXLEY, H. Dec. 12, 1944, No. 24897. [Class 136 (i)] Brake mechanism for cycles comprises camoperated brake levers c pivotally mounted between a front plate a and a back plate b secured to the cycle frame. A cam d is received in position between the U-shaped plates a and b. The limbs of the rear members b support the pivot pins e of the brake levers c, and the limbs of the front members a are slotted at a<3> to locate the pins. The front member is secured to the rear member on the outside of the brake levers by distance pieces a<1>, b<2> and a single bolt f, by which the latter mechanism is secured to the frame. The rear member b is provided with limbs extending downwardly below the pivots e recessed transversely on the front face to receive straps j which connect the bracket to the wheel forks. A cable or rod is attached to the wedge cam d which is caused to bear against the cut-away edges c<1>, c<2> of the oppositely disposed levers c, thus applying the brake against the force of a spring g. The levers are cranked forwardly at right angles and each provided with a laterally projecting lug d that is bent downwards and carries a brake shoe h.
