Abstract

593,664. Cycle brakes. SLADE, R. G. June 20, 1945, No. 15672. [Class 136 (i)] In a rim brake for cycles, motor cycles and the like the usual cable actuates toggle mechanism in pivotal engagement with brake levers 1 which are fulcrummed to a stationary shoeshaped frame 7 secured at its lower extremities to the frame of the cycle, the lower ends of the levers being connected with the brake shoes 10. Plates 15 are pivoted at the lower ends of the levers 1 and provided with a plurality of flat surfaces 16 adapted to bear against the brake shoes 10, a finger grip 15a for manipulation, and abutments 15b to limit its travel. The brake shoes 10 are secured to one side of an L-shaped bracket 9 the other end of which slides in a housing formed on the end of each side of the shoe-shaped frame 7. A spring 13 is anchored at its centre to the frame and bears against a stud provided on the brake-shoes or on the L-shaped bracket.
