Abstract

634,551. Cycle brakes. UBSDELL, A. J. Feb. 17, 1948, No. 4593. [Class 136 (i)] A rim brake comprises a pair of transverse levers 1, 2 mounted on a fulcrum 5 adapted to be fixed over the wheel, a pair of links 7, 8 pivoted to the levers and connected to the brake pads, which are guided towards and away from the undersurface 12 of the wheel rim by members 9 carried by the links sliding in guide members 11 fixed on either side of the wheel and a Bowden wire or like transmission means for rocking the levers relatively to one another to apply the brake. The brake pads are carried by shoes 13 fixed to the links 7, 8 by means of nuts 15 and bolts 14 engaging in slots in the links arranged so that each pad can be adjusted angularly and towards and away from the rim. The lever 2 has an extension 16 co-operating with one arm of the two-armed lever 1 for receiving movement from the cable 18. A return spring 20 retracts the brake mechanism when the pull on the cable 18 is released.
