Abstract
558,211. Cycle brake mechanism. TRIGGS, W. W. (Weinmann & Co.). July 10, 1942, No. 9625. [Class 136 (i)] Means for the auxiliary foot control of a cycle hand brake comprises a lever 9 pivoted at 10 to the frame and connected at its lower end with a cable 11 which connects the hand operated brake lever and rear brake (both not shown). The cut ends of the outer sheath 12 of the cable are secured to flanges 13 on a fixed plate. - The upper end of lever 9 carries a lever 15 having a pin 17 which, in the off position of the brake cable shown, engages lever 9 so as to keep the hooked end 16 of lever 15 clear of the chain wheel 5. When cable 11 is moved to the right to operate the brake, hook 16 engages the chain wheel which, if moved counterclockwise, serves to maintain the brake in the effective position to any desired degree. On the resumption of pedalling in the clockwise direction, hook 16 is disengaged to release the brake.
