518,932. Brake &c. levers for cycles &c. PALMER, R. R. M. Sept. 8, 1938, No. 26216. [Class 136 (i)] A hand-lever. for operating a 'Bowden &c. cable is provided with a manually-movable member mounted on the lever-supporting-bracket so that it can be interposed in the gap between the bracket and the lever when the latter has been operated, whereby the tension of the cable is maintained, e.g., to retain a brake in operative position, without continued operation of the lever. A lever 3 for operating a cable 6. is pivoted to a bracket 1 by means of a pin 15, on which is adjustably mounted a plate 13, which is formed with a slot 14 engaging the pin and is secured by a nut 16. An arm 9 is 'pivoted to a lug 12 on the plate 13, and is provided with a spacer-lug 11 adapted to be swung into the gap 17 formed between the Bowden-wire seating 4 and the lever 3 when the latter is operated. The lug 11 'is wedge-shaped and formed with steps on its edge to bridge different sizes of gap, according to the degree of tension applied by the lever to the cable. The arm 9 is retained in its operative and inoperative positions by gravity or by a snap action at the pivot.
