Abstract

815,056. Brake - operating mechanism. CHICAGO FORGING & MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 1, 1955 [Oct. 28, 1955], No. 31203/55. Class 103 (1). A brake operating mechanism for motor vehicles comprises a brake lever 16, which is spring loaded by a spring 25, Fig. 1, into brakereleasing position, and which pivotally supports a brake locking and release lever 31 having an element 34 arranged to ride over and engage the serrations of an arcuate serrated edge 13 on actuation of the brake lever, and to be lifted clear of the serrations on actuation of a locking and release lever 31. The lever 31 is pivoted on the lever 16 at a pin 30 located intermediate the main lever pivot 15 and the serrated edge and is urged in an anti-clockwise direction by a yielding member 40. A further foot-operated member 51 pivoted on the main brake lever at pin 50 and linked to lever 31 by pin 53, when depressed, releases the latching element or roller 34 from the serrated edge 13. In an alternative embodiment the lever 51 is manually operated.
