Abstract
725,385. Brake lever mechanism. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. May 20, 1953 [May 20, 1952], No. 14238/53. Class 103 (1). In a brake lever mechanism for vehicles of the type in which the brakes may, if necessary, be applied by repeated strokes of the lever 3, there is provided in addition to the detent 12, by which the lever is locked to the ratchet wheel 2 except when the control handle 17 is pressed, a pawl 4 also locking the lever 3 to the wheel 2 except when the lever is moved to its full release position, wherein a plunger 9 is pressed by a fixed stop 7 against a pre-stressed spring 10 whereby the pawl 4 is also released. This arrangement avoids the possibility of the brakes being suddenly completely released by a freeing of the wheel 2 when the lever is in an ON condition. The strength of the three springs 6, 14 and 22 are so arranged that the control handle 17 when gripped by the pushing hand would not normally be moved until the plunger 9 was bearing upon the stop 7.
