Abstract

672,559. Hand brake mechanism. E.R.F., Ltd., and SHERRATT, E. Jan. 8, 1951 [March 16, 1950], No. 6584/50. Class 103 (i). A multi-pull hand brake mechanism for a motor vehicle comprises in combination, a brake handle a mounted to turn about the axis of a ratchet-wheel b connected to a brake operating lever e, a driving pawl c for turning the ratchetwheel to apply the brakes being pivoted upon the handle and released from the ratchet-wheel by a push-button d, a pivotally-mounted release or check pawl f being spring-loaded to engage the ratchet-wheel and released by a hand member i, also pivoted on the handle a, acting through a rod k having a pivotal connection with an arm m secured to the pawl f, the said pivotal connection being during brake applications coaxial with the ratchet-wheel so that movement of the brake handle does not affect the position of the release or check pawl which is then in engagement with the ratchet-wheel.
