705,428. Steering brakes. MASCHINENFABRIK GEB. KRAMER GES. Aug. 30, 1951 [Oct. 23, 1950], No. 20541 /51. Class 79(2) In a steering brake for tractors in which means for the actuation of single wheel brakes of the rear wheels are so yieldably connected to the steering member that these brakes are automatically actuated when a fairly large lock is imparted to the front wheels, and which on a vehicle with a steering gear including a steering shaft in a steering worm mechanism, the transmission mechanism which serves to actuate directly the single wheel brakes on the rear wheels is linked to an arm fixed to the steering shaft at a distance from the steering shaft which is shorter than the 'distance between the steering shaft and a point of articulation of a steering rod on the arm. In the arrangement shown, a steering drop-arm 11 is connected through a rod 13 to a piston 3 which is slidable in a cylinder 1 connected to a brake lever 15. Movement of the piston 3 in a direction to apply the brake is initially unopposed but is subsequently resiliently opposed by a spring 4. A single brake pedal is provided for operating simultaneously the brakes on both sides of the vehicle.
