Abstract

424,911. Fluid - pressure brakes. JOHNSON, M. E., and FEENY & JOHNSON, Ltd., 134, Ealing Road, Wembley, Middlesex. Nov. 24, 1933, No. 32899. Addition to 403,668. [Class 103 (i)] In a brake system as described in the parent Specification, the servo-motor is arranged to apply brakes through mechanical means indipendent of the main fluid-pressure system or through a separate fluid-pressure system. The brakes applied by the servo-motor may be the same as those of the main system or they may be other brakes. A master cylinder h, Fig. 1, of a hydraulic system, operated by pedal a forces liquid into operating cylinders u of brake shoes a and also to a valve device l constructed as described in the parent Specification whereby vacuum from a source connected at m is established in a servo-motor o dependent upon the pressure in the hydraulic system. The servo-motor actuates a cam r to apply additional pressure to the shoes s. A servomotor may instead be provided at each brake drum and may operate a wedge disposed between the ends of the shoes opposite to those engaged by the cylinder u or it may operate separate shoes arranged beside the shoes a. Servo-motors may operate brakes on the front or rear wheels only of a vehicle or a transmission brake and may be mounted at the middle part of an axle to operate a pair of brakes at the ends; brakes on a trailer vehicle may be operated by servo-motors mounted thereon and connected to the control valve on the tractor by a flexible pipe.
