201,858. Napier & Son, Ltd., D., and Wilkinson, G. S. Feb. 1, 1923. Addition to 198,007. Fluid-pressure.-The brake mechanism described in the parent Specification is modified by the provision of one or more additional brake cylinders which are connected to the adjacent end of the valve cylinder by a common chamber. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement of four cylinders J - - J<3> the pistons K, K<3> of which are respectively connected to the front wheel brakes of a motor vehicle and the pistons K<1>, K<2> to the rear wheel brakes. The cylinders are connected to the valve cylinder C by a chamber H to which the pump G also is connected. The valve piston D actuated by the lever E carries a double-armed lever D<4> whereby the rear wheel brakes may be directly actuated when the liquid-pressure is not available. The pressure applied to the lever E in applying the brake by liquid-pressure is proportional to the pressure on the pistons K - - K<3> since the piston D is subject to this pressure. Only two cylinders may be provided, one for the rear wheel brakes and the other for the front wheel brakes.
