In a brake system for automobile vehicles it is arranged that should there be a failure of the hydraulic system operated through a servo device 4 by compressed air or vacuum in a reservoir 5. The continued movement of the pedal 1 will engage an abutment 11 to open a valve 12 so that fluid-pressure from the reservoir 5 may operate an auxiliary brake 10, such as that normally applied by the hand lever 8.
