Abstract

845,837. Compressed air brakes. KNORRBREMSE G.m.b.H. Nov. 13, 1958 [Nov. 14, 1957], No. 36557/58. Class 103 (1). In a relay valve for compressed air brake installations for tractor trailer vehicle combinations, mechanically-operated means such as the bell-crank levers 17, 19 and linkage 13, 14 connected to the hand-brake lever 9 are provided, whereby the relay valve may be mechanically actuated for pressurizing and exhausting the trailer brake pipe connected at port 15. Opening of the top valve member of double valve cone 75 admits air from port 3 leading to an air reservoir on the driving vehicle, and opening of the bottom valve member allows air to escape to atmosphere past plunger 55 and through groove 37 on the thrust-member 23. Port 8 is normally connected to the motorvehicle brake valve, whereby normal operation of the trailer brakes takes place as a result of movement of the piston 51 against spring 63.
