Abstract

In a braking system for a tractor and trailer, operation of the pedal 7 emits compressed air from reservoirs 1, 2 under control of valves 5 to the main braking system for the tractor and trailer. In the trailer, the pressure in line 10 opens valve 11, admitting compressed air from a reservoir 15 to an actuator 12 for brakes 13. Application of a parking brake lever 20 closes a valve 19 which isolates the reservoir 2 from the actuator 28 and allows the trailer brakes to be applied by spring 29. This action also occurs following operation of an uncoupling lever 17 or if lines 22, 24 should become fractured. A dual non-return valve 42 prevents simultaneous operation of both methods of actuating the trailer brakes.
