824,434. Fluid-pressure brakes. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. June 21, 1957 [Aug. 6, 1956], No. 19675/57. Class 103 (1). A pneumatic servo-cylinder unit 12 has its piston 22 linked to a pair of spaced substantially parallel arms 16, which are pivoted, by a slotted connection, on a projection from a lever 14 disposed between the arms 16, the arms 16 and lever 14 being connected respectively by pushrods 60 and 64. between the operating pedal and the master cylinder for hydraulic brakes, neither of which are shown. When the pedal is pressed, rod 60 pivots lever 14 about pin 40, the top end of the lever operating a valve 30 to let atmospheric air in through port 36 and. the central passage 34 to the space behind the servopiston 22 and produce a brake application by movement of arm 16. During this initial movement of rod 60, and until the pin 72 on levers 16 has moved to the end of slot 70, no reaction is transmitted to the valve lever 14, the movement of the lever 16 causing the head of pin 92 to be biased against the projection on the valve lever 14, to provide a first stage of reaction to the valve lever 14. Therefore, when the pin 72 abuts the forward end surface of the hole 70, further movement of lever 16 produces a second stage of reaction back to the vehicle foot pedal.
