Abstract

765,079. Hydraulic brakes. CLAYTON DEWANDRE CO., Ltd. June 23,1955 [July 9, 1954], No. 20202/54. Class 103 (1). In a servo-operated hydraulic brake system the operator's pedal 14 is connected to the control valve 12 for applying pressure through the pneumatic servo-cylinder 1 by a link 38, the lower end of which is pivoted to a rod 39 for applying a thrust to an hydraulic master cylinder 34. When the system is operating normally the spring 40 will hold back the piston 36 of the master cylinder, so that link 37 will pivot about the end of rod 39 and operate the control valve in the usual manner. If the source of vacuum connected to pipe 24 should fail, the lever 37 would continue to move until a collar 41 at the top end abuts the valve casing whereupon it pivots about the adjacent end pin and the other end applies pressure to the master cylinder, the output from which passes by pipe 35 to the intermediate hydraulic cylinder 5 and by pipe 6 to the brakes.
