Abstract

772,177. Brake master cylinders. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and BUTLER, H. J. Nov. 30, 1954 [Dec. 2, 1953], No. 33438/53. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXIV] A master cylinder intended particularly to operate brakes pneumatically, comprises a piston 4 linked to a pedal or manual actuating member 45 in a manner such that an initial fairly rapid movement of the piston 4 is produced sufficient to produce a quick compression of the air in the cylinder, the linkage 42, 42a, 43, producing a final gradual movement of the piston at an increased leverage ratio. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 2 and 3 there are pairs of links 47, 48 between the cylinder end and piston 4, the links being extended by a frusto-conical end member 50 on the operating rod. The bore of piping between the master cylinder and brake cylinders is kept as small as possible. Specification 734,856 is referred to.
