Abstract

707,220. Fluid pressure brakes. THOMSON & TAYLOR (BROOKLANDS), Ltd., and WALKER, N. L. Nov. 23, 1950 [Nov. 23, 1949], No. 30042/49. Class 103(1) The brakes of a vehicle are adapted to be operated from either, or any. of two or more control points respectively governing independent sources of pressure fluid. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the outputs from two master cylinders 2 and 5 act respectively upon coaxial pistons 7 and 10 in a transmitting unit 9, the end cylinder 6 of which acts as a pressurizing unit for the brakes connected thereto by pipe 3. Due to the difference in diameter of pistons 7 and 10, the effort from the master cylinder 5, which is shown as hand operated, is boosted up to a degree comparable with that exerted by the pedal operated master cylinder 2. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the piston 20 of the transmitting unit, may be moved either by hydraulic pressure from a master cylinder connected by pipe 12 and passage 26 or by pneumatic pressure acting upon a servopiston 18. The pipe line 3 again leads to the brake cylinders and the line 22 to a hydraulic reservoir.
