Abstract

514,917. Fluid-pressure brakes. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd., and GATES, G. R. G. May 18, 1938, No. 14893. [Class 103 (i)] In a compressed air or vacuum brake for vehicles having hydraulic transmission the pressure produced in the hydraulic master cylinder is applied to a piston 55 acting to close the inlet valve, and thus to limit the brake application to a degree dependent on the movement of the foot pedal, and also to give a reaction on the driver's foot. The foot pedal acts on the inlet valve by means of a spring tappet 48 to allow the valve to be reclosed by the piston 55. The exhaust valve is also operated by means of a spring tappet. The inlet valve is provided with a sleeve 42 having tapered grooves which provide a passage of progressively increasing area past the valve as the valve is opened.
